A bow is still a bow, whether it’s vertical or horizontal and the arrow still arches thru the air. However, I was raised in the era of Howard Hill and Fred Bear in the 1950’s and 1960’s. I yearned to become the archer and hunter like these men. They were my hunting/archery heroes.
Then in the 1970’s I bought my first Compound Bow, a Herter’s Power Magnum.
That Herter’s Compound Bow purchase changes my hunting life. I adapted very fast.
Accuracy and hunting shot distance instantly improved. And I didn’t have to struggle to shoot my bow everyday to maintain my skill.
I hunted in Africa with a High Country Sniper Compound below and harvested this nice Gemsbok below with Muzzy 4-Blade broadheads.
Later in my life, owning several compound bows, I had an eye focus issue with my string peep and destroyed my ability to hit big game accurately.
Sadly, I stopped bowhunting for a few years and refocuses on my love of rifles, calibers, ballistics and handloading. I used a Muzzleloader on this awesome whitetail below at 85 yards.
But I still shoot Longbow and Recurve for fun. And built several self bows.
Enter the Crossbow
Again, as I got older, I adapted. I now own an Excalibur recurve crossbow and a 10 Point Turbo S1 compound crossbow and have taken wild boar with them.
Now I can still hit a silver dollar at 20 yards and a grapefruit at 50 yards with my state-of-the-art crossbow. A bow is still a bow whether horizontal or vertical and a broadhead is still a broadhead.
And I’m still “me” whether young or old, and I will hunt till the day the Lord calls me. It keeps me young at heart! You too!
Good Hunting!
